A year on from her impressive debut EP Trying, which featured highlight 'Don't Be Afraid', today we are buzzing to share GIMMY's (FKA Gimmy Flowens) fresh and energetic new single, ‘SWEAT (An Australian Summer)’. As the title suggests, the Northern Rivers artist’s new garage rock number is all about sweating in the peak of Australian summer — born from a heat-wave induced jam in the studio with GIMMY and her band.

Recorded and mixed by Sam Joseph (King Gizzard’s touring engineer and producer of albums by Babe Rainbow, Nice Biscuit and more), ‘SWEAT (An Australian Summer)’ mixes the bizarrity of Aldous Harding and avant-garde rock of Cate Le Bon with a surf rock and psychedelic flavour. The song has big energy thanks to an uptempo groove held by drums, bass and bongos, while an infectious guitar riff hooks you in and GIMMY’s powerful vocals hit you from front and centre. You can hear the humidity in the room as she delivers each lyric, gasping for respite.

GIMMY speaks about creating the track; “we were simply soaking in sweat on a Monday afternoon. It began with an Eastern inspired surf riff on my fender, followed by the lyrics. I couldn’t think straight because it was so hot that day, so the only lyrics that came to my mind were about how much I had been sweating and all the places I had been sweating. Summer in the Northern Rivers is extremely balmy so the song is about how it feels living in Australia in the summer - constantly soaking in sweat.“
