Before 2023 is done and dusted, GIMMY is excited to share one last track that is sure to keep your pistons firing into the new year. New single, ‘Tell Me I’m Your Girl’ cuts straight to the point as a hard-hitting garage-rock song with gritty guitar riffs and feedback, thumping bass and splashy drums, driving the song. GIMMY’s vocals feel sweet and chaotic all at once, delivered with a directness that crosses over into the punk rock world.

The track was once again recorded and mixed by Sam Joseph (King Gizzard, Babe Rainbow, Nice Biscuit) with the band performing live in GIMMY’s home in Mullumbimby, which they converted into a recording studio.

'Tell Me I’m Your Girl’ is a sarcastic love song about all the tacky things we want in relationships, as GIMMY explains; “I love romance, all the chaos and honesty of it, not just the shining stuff but all the grit as well. This song is a tacky picture of what I think a lot of people desire — to be treated like royalty and be paid for — but when you’re young, you can only really afford cheap cheese and wine from Woolworths haha”. 

The song was first written by GIMMY when she was trying to diversify her sound from her more intimate folk songs, towards a bigger rock and roll sound, as she says; “I had a fire in my belly for a rock and roll expression session. This was the first baby born from that space. My dearest friend Aiden Stewart created that sexy guitar riff, which our guitarist Samson Radici put his own spin on for the recording”.
